The Child Care Centre

At the Child Care Centre live abandoned babies and children, orphans and abused children at the age from a few hours up to 10 years. Most of them are placed here by the youth welfare office of Madagascar. There are girls and boys equally. At the moment there are about 50 children, but the family is growing nearly day by day. The terrible poverty that faces many Malagasy families is one of the reasons why still many children will arrive at Akany Avoko in future. In 2004 arrived 5 babies who were found in the rubbish or drains of the capital city Antananarivo. These babies need a special medical treatment and nutrition to survive. The other children who arrive at Akany Avoko are often also in a desolate physical and psychological condition. They need a long time and a lot of love and care to get back to a nearly normal life. Whenever possible, Akany Avoko allows the children to visit the public school, so that they can get a normal education. But some of the children arrive at Akany Avoko at an advanced age and without any education, they have no chance to visit a public school. Akany Avoko teaches them the basic school subjects like mathematics, French and English. But first of all is, that the children can be children and have the childhood they deserve.
