Environmental protection in Akany Avoko

Environmental protection is a big goal of Akany Avoko. Avoiding of not re-usable rubbish is a serious thing because there is no garbage disposal. The children shall learn how to protect nature already when they are young.

In Akany Avoko you can find the first fermentation toilet of Madagascar. It produces enough biogas that one family can cook with. Compost toilets complete this special program of recycling the wastes of the toilets and animal manure. But of course every organic waste is collected to compost and reused in the garden as fertile soil.

Another economical resource is special dried fruits which can be used excellently as charcoal. With this kind of fuel you can save many trees which would otherwise end up as fire wood. Cooking with reflecting dishes is also a good way to use renewable energy and saving naturally resources. It's a very good way to cook rice, the daily meal at Akany Avoko. Even to produce the warm water for the showers they use this kind of technology by using sunbeam.

Akany Avoko possesses its own chickens which supply eggs for Akany Avoko and the local market. And of course there is a garden to grow their own vegetables and fruits and to teach the children the skills they need to do it.

With all these projects Akany Avoko tries not only to be self-sufficient, they also teach the children how important it is to protect the environment of Madagascar and to develop economical technologies. They shall learn different ways to protect the unique nature of Madagascar form its total destruction. Malagasy people accept these new technologies very gratefully if they can recognize a direct use of it. But first you have to bring it to the people and show and teach them. Still today disappears a big area of the Malagasy nature and specially rain forest every year.
