The Girls Centre

At the Girls Centre live girls the age of 10 to 18 years. Most of them changed at the age of 10 from the Child Care to the Girls Centre, but there are also girls who live at Akany Avoko because they can't visit a High School in their villages. At the moment there are five girls living at Akany Avoko who are awaiting their court hearing because of accusation of petty crime. At the Girls Centre it is like in Child Care, if possible the girls visit the public school or if they can't Akany Avoko teaches them in the basic school subjects like mathematics, French and English. But here they learn also how to cook, how to grow vegetables and fruits in the garden, how to sew and a lot of other skills. The goal is to teach them skills that will allow them to run a small business to earn money for a self sufficient life.

Akany Avoko provides also different possibilities to be occupied, like performances of traditional Malagasy dances for visitors and guests, or to play in a small stage performance of the "Petit Prince" at the Alliance Francaise in Antananarivo. Akany Avoko tries to offer as often as possible some alternations to the normal and every day life in the centre and so they use every trivial opportunity to make a big and omitted party. The kids are grateful for this and participate always with great joy and a lot of fun.
