Madagascar ranks among the ten poorest countries in the world. This poverty is the reason that many children and young persons suffer. Often they are orphans or abandoned.  Due to this poverty they are forced to work, beg, petty crime and prostitution. Even if they are protected from this by their parents, the income is often not sufficient to nurture the family.

Akany Avoko offers a safe shelter for the destitute and never turns away a young person, a child or a baby in need of help. At Akany Avoko they get the love and education to become a respected member of society. The goal of Akany Avoko is to provide education and skills for a self sufficient life afterwards and to integrate alternative technologies into life to protect the unique nature of Madagascar.

The friends of Akany Avoko worked voluntarily at Akany Avoko for a few weeks or months and lived together with these lovely children and the staff. We travelled through Madagascar as backpackers and saw the poverty of this unique island and the necessity to help. We know by personal experiences that our help is needed and that's why we ask you for your support! It's your decision how you want to help us and Akany Avoko.
